We celebrate the founding of the UN on United Nations Day. Annual celebrations include the traditional Massachusetts UN Day Ceremony at the State House and the UN Day Luncheon, as well as UN Day proclamations and flag-raising ceremonies in Massachusetts cities and towns.

United Nations Day, celebrated on October 24, is a focal point for UNA-GBs activities. We encourage you to mark the day in your home, school, town library, town hall or at one of our events. Contact us to purchase a UN flag at tel: 617-482-4587 or via email to info@unagb.org.
UN Day Proclamations from Towns and Cities in the Commonwealth
UNA-GB encourages the 350 towns and cities in Massachusetts to issue UN Day Proclamations. The proclamations are displayed at the UN Day ceremony at the State House. Towns and cities are also encouraged to fly the UN flag. Contact your local town or city hall to ask whether they have issued a UN Day Proclamation. You can submit proclamations to the local newspaper for publishing on UN Day. This is a great way to raise awareness of the UN's work, as the proclamations highlight the work of the UN around the UN Day theme.
UN Flag Raisings
Educational institutions organize ceremonies to raise the UN flag on October 24. Each year Tufts University organized a flag raising and speeches to commemorate UN Day. In 2003, Ryed Iqbal Riza, Chef de Cabinet to Secretary General Kofi Annan, reminded the audience that "it was the visions of Wilson and Roosevelt that led to the foundation of the UN." You can participate in UN Day by organizing a flag-raising ceremony at your school, university, town hall or library. Ceremonies generally consist of raising the UN Flag, reading the UN Day proclamation and the message from the Secretary-General. For further information or assistance, contact us at 617-482-4587. We'd love to hear about your event!
Programs in Schools
UNA-GB's educational staff and volunteers work with schools to mark UN Day through an assembly, UN flag raising, or a presentation in the classroom. Contact us for details.
